  • For Hindus, the root of vegetarianism is vested in the principle of ahimsa: not causing any pain to any living being at any time through one’s mind, speech, or actions. Bhagwan Swaminarayan prescribed strict codes of ahimsa and a lacto-vegetarian diet devoid of onion and garlic to His followers over 200 years ago. He also prescribed to not even consume medicine that contains any part or component of non-vegetarian foods or ingredients including alcohol.
